On Aug. 21 my wife, Bekah, killed her first moose. She hunted for about 1 hour on the 20th and she almost got a shot at one but it disappeared into the trees. The next morning we woke up and saw 2 moose in 15 min. She got a perfect 75 yard broadside shot and killed it with one shot. The moose took about 3 steps and down into the deep grass it went. We were out of there and back at camp by 8am thanks to the help of Bill (her dad). Bekah was a trooper when it came to cutting up the moose and carring it out. She only almost puked one time when the moose through up all over me and I had to wash off in the near by swamp. I go on my hunt on Sept. 5th and can't wait.
I talked to another little su guide yesterday and he said he caught 4 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon. He said it has slowed down in the last 2 days. This could be getting closer to the end of the run. Here are some pic's from sliver season this year mainly from family trips.
I took my last group of fisherman on Aug 14th from 7:30pm and was limited out with silvers by 9:30. I will start moose hunting with my wife on Aug. 20th to try to get her first moose ever. I will be at the Little Su so I should have a fishing update also after we get done on Sunday night. I am teaching school now so I will be limited on outings for a while but will try to keep up with the updates as best as I can.
Got 9 silvers from 6am-8am today with 4 fisherman and I caught 1. Fish still have good color to them even up stream. I fish the next two days (looks like with spinners) so we will see if I can still catch them.
Well, I have now limited out every day of silver season with clients. Here are a few pic's of the catch since the last post. Egg day (aug. 6th was not what I expected. I drove down river at 5:15am and saw about 10 boats already fishing and one other guide fishing in the spot I wanted. I had to move 3 different time to get my 6 clients a limit and was done by 7:30am. I guided another trip at 9am and finished in about 45 min. I then took family out fishing and when we were at fish 15 we decieded that was enough meed for all of us. I cought a total of 31 silvers that day. I believe other guides cought about 16 or so silvers that day. The count on the fish board said about 650 fish cought that day. Today, as of 7pm, the fish board said 150 silvers. This put a big hit on the silvers in the river and is making it hard to catch fish anymore. In another week we will have to search a bunch to catch our limit. I have clients Monday, Tuesday and Wednsday and now I'm open to fish next saturaday and sunday and then I am done for the year. Can't wait to start moose hunting with my wife and my best buddy Jon.
Fishing has slowed a bit but we can still catch our fish. I will fish a night trip on Wed and see how it is.
Fishing still has remained good on the Little Su. With each group of clients we have got our limit of silver salmon. Most days we are done between 8-10am and we start at 6am. I have taken family out for afternoon and night trips and it does seem slower. I have fished up stream and down stream and ought them both ways. It does seem harder to catch a silver up stream though. Starting Thursday I will be busy every day until school starts on Aug 12th.
