The fishing has been good since my last post. We are starting to see the the 20 lb hens entering the river. When this happens this means the bulk of the King Salmon are through the river and we will start seeing a drop in the number of fish people will be catching each day. Even though we have had the best King Salmon run in 3 years, Sam Ivey (fish and game biologist), has decided to close the river in an effort to keep more Kings in the river to spawn. If anyone would like to voice their opinion or get information about possible closures on other rivers you can call Sam at 746-6334.
I will be guiding trips this weekend at the Kashwitna River. This river has been known for catching Kings and producing big fish. This river can also be fished from the bank with waders. I would suggest local fisherman to give it a try. Also, for boat fisherman, the mouth of Little Willow Creek early in the morning is a hot spot this next weekend if you’re looking to avoid the crowds.
Directions to the Kashwitna River will be on the Map link of my website.
